This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse mix of inner city and suburban students. I teach Career Technical Education courses that are designed to prepare them to be college and career ready.

Our school district serves one of the most diverse large cities in the United States, and dozens of languages are spoken by local students.

About 14 percent of students here are African-American, 11 percent Asian, 55 percent Hispanic, 14 percent white, less than 2 percent Pacific Islander, less than 1 percent American Indian/Alaskan Native, and about 4 percent other. Approximately 23 percent of students are English language learners, and 68 percent are socioeconomically disadvantaged.

Not all students have the opportunity to go to college, but they will need to have skills to make them employable when they leave high school.

My Project

This will allow me to expand my online teaching so that I can maximize breakout rooms in Zoom, monitor students better and present content at the same time. It will allow me to check for understanding more efficiently through video and chat without having to switch between communication and content presented. I will be able to see student reactions, an important teacher skill, so that I can adjust my teaching accordingly without fumbling between windows on my one computer screen. Students will be able to view the content continuously without interruption of the teacher checking the chat.
