My Students

My students are wonderful. They are excited about school and eager to learn, create, and perform. We are a Title I school with a population of about 425 students, some of whom are English Language Learners. Our students love learning about composers and instrumentation. They also love to play, sing, compose, and perform.

Though our families come from differing backgrounds, our staff is committed to the like-minded goal of educating our students for a successful future.

Music is one way to reach our students by allowing them to be expressive. Right now, we are building a music program at our school to help kids pursue their musical goals.

My Project

Our school is fortunate to have a set of tubanos for kids to get drumming. Our students LOVE to drum! We have 16 drums and 18 eager students who made our Drumming Ensemble this year. We need two more drums to complete our collection. With two more drums we can also have nearly everyone in general music class on an instrument at a time. These instruments have been a great resource for our music room, but also a tool for building a culture where students have opportunities to enjoy and participate in music. We are SO grateful to have many instruments and a supportive community.
