My Project
Having flex seating in both of our classrooms and in our hallway (we are the only 2 gen ed teachers in our hallway) will make such a difference in our students learning and education. Giving students flexible seating allows us to give them comfort and helps us ease some of their anxiety while they are trying to learn something new. We have all been there! I rarely did my best thinking when I was sitting in a school desk. Growing up (and even now) I do my best learning and thinking when I am sitting on the floor and can spread out or when I am sitting on my couch or bed listening to music. Our kids and students are the same. They sometimes do their best thinking when they are not forced to sit in their chairs for hours every single day.
My goal with this project is to provide 2 teachers (partner/switch teachers) and 2 classrooms plus our hallway with flexible seating for all of our students.
I have anywhere from 25-28 students in my 1st hour class and my switch partner has the same which is also my 2nd hour class. We are a tough love set of teachers who have big hearts and want to do what is best for our kiddos. Side note: we have rules taught and enforced about treating things like flexible seating with respect and helping take care of things even if they someone else owns it.
What makes our students so special is a weird question for me to answer. I say that because I think all students are special and deserve to be treated that way and feel that way. But what makes our students special is that they are our students and we will always put their needs first.
