Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn and explore the world of science. Even though my students encounter many trials and tribulations on a daily basis, I want the year to be stress free.
In the past three years science proficiency has improved in ways that I could never imagine.
This is a testament as to how amazing these students are. Students at my school are eager to remain active in class. They volunteer to stay after school and love representing the school in science competitions. They love exploring new concepts and as an educator, I love to see them use inquiry at all times.
I currently work at a Title 1 school where many students are lacking the essential materials that are needed to be successful in school. A large majority of students are immigrants that do not speak English and they come to school hoping to experience something better than they do at home. I am hoping that this year students get a fair chance at learning as educational equity is in the forefront of my mission.
My Project
Year after year I observe my students give 100% of what they can in my science classroom and, although I always reward them with a party, they deserve much more. My students are eager to learn and explore the world of Science. This year I have decided to reward students that attend tutoring by taking them on a trip of a lifetime to Universal Studios Orlando.
Science is a subject that should be taken out of the classroom.
With this said, I am excited to connect the attractions in Universal Studios to what we have learned during the year. There is so much to explore at the park and many of my students have never even left Miami. This opportunity will also motivate my students to attend more tutoring sessions and be even more successful in Science. My hope is that the extra push will allow our students to score higher on the Biology EOC and this will provide more point for our school grade.
