Do you remember the fun of trying to get a bug to crawl up your arm as a child? My students feel like hundreds of bugs are crawling on their skin many times per day due to their sensory processing disorders.
My students are in 3 classes from Kindergarten through Fifth grade.
They attend a public elementary school with their neighborhood peers. Our fun times together typically include: books, toys, balls, bubbles, and music. All of my students have Autism.
My Project
The Turtles will be used in our Motor Lab-Sensory Room every day. Students will use them to help regulate their sensory needs and increase their concentration and focusing abilities. Once the Turtles and our other sensory equipment is used for 10-20 minutes, the students will return to their classrooms for reading, writing, and math.
Having this sensory equipment will greatly allow for 25 students from 5 to 12 years of age with classic Autism to increase their concentration and focusing abilities throughout the day.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
