Help me give my students book bins and the texts they need to build vocabulary in context, to practice decoding skills, and show their new learning with quick and fun assessments.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year will mark a first for me: teaching 1st Grade! I know from teaching the upper elementary grades that in a Title I school like mine, where we work hard each school day to provide enriching reading experiences, if the text isn't inviting to a student, it won't even get plucked off the classroom library shelf. Last year's Kindergarten teachers worked hard to prepare this year's upcoming 1st Graders - many of whom have reached reading levels at or above grade-level expectations. Our students will be ready to jump into reading instruction with these popular texts that will surely be a bright spot in their busy school day.
My co-teacher and I want to wow our students with texts that excite, challenge, and reward them.
We are committed to focus on vocabulary growth, decoding skills, and phonemic awareness throughout the year, and we chose these books to specifically target these goals.
Year after year, our 1st grade students will share these texts with joy and confidence. We hope you share our belief that when it comes to learning, joy is powerful!
