We need 3D printing filament to create parts for our robot, to learn more about creating and prototyping, engineering solutions and to have fun printing the lightning bolts like our school logo.

About My Students
I have AWESOME kids! They ask good questions. They are curious. They want to learn. However, they lack resources.
They all come from families that often do without. However, they have found science fun and can't wait for the next experiment, lab or activity. Many times, these kids will stay after school for an extra experiment or way to show what they know. Hands-on activities are important to this group of kids.
It is difficult to ask our kids to bring extra resources since we are in one of the highest poverty districts in the country. Your blessing is noticed and appreciated by them (and myself!)
Written by my students: We are learning to take engineering ideas, create a 3D model then transfer that to the printer. We understand from colleges that 3D printers are used in many classes. If we can learn now how to transfer what we design to a 3D printer, we become ready for college and many careers.
We want to use the 3D printer to boost some school spirit by printing our lighting bolts we have designed for students in addition to our robotic parts.
In Their Own Words
Goal #1: We want to learn how to use the 3D printer interface. The computer needs a way to talk to the printer.
Goal #2: build school spirit by printing and giving away our storm bolts.
Goal #3: Using engineering ideas to plan and create parts for our robot since many of the parts cannot be purchased.
Many of our club members are in student government, FFA and other clubs. We created the storm bolts to reward kids when they do something cool or nice. We want to print them in several colors, one for each month. That way, kids can get several in one year if they get caught doing something nice each month.
School spirit is tough. We don't have a real school mascot. The storm bolts is the closest thing we have. Printing them and giving them to kids will help get the school spirit. We hope kids are going to want to get one when they see all the cool colors.
Also, some of the parts we need for the robot are not for sale. We need to design them and print them so we can compete.
