This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! Their enthusiasm for learning never ceases to amaze me. They work hard every day, staying engaged with hands-on activities and games that help them practice their skills and increase their knowledge. I love giving them the opportunity. We are a low socioeconomic area and highly diverse school in Central California. Nearly all of my students' learning happens at school. Most of my students have not traveled beyond our city walls. We are a small school - with a big heart!
My Project
This year our school district will implement the Next Generation Science Standards. For 6th grade students, this means learning about more than just Earth Science. In addition to new content, students will be tasked with more critical thinking than in the past. This means hands-on learning, using models, constructing explanations and designing solutions. Students will analyze and interpret data, using math and computational thinking to write arguments that they will then communicate.
My students need a STEM activity that is truly memorable and incorporates multiple disciplines.
The MudWatt STEM Kit will give my students an opportunity to learn about clean energy through the unique activities that this product provides. My students will work in groups to explore the challenging, cross cutting concepts of the Next Generation Science Standards while incorporating multiple disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, soil ecology, and nutrient cycling.
I am extremely excited to get to work on this with my students!
