When 25 students sing and play instruments at the same time, it's hard to keep the beat and melody together with the small, computer speakers we have right now. A new speaker system (that is portable and durable) would help the students sing and play beautifully (and save this teacher's voice)!
Our Illinois school is Kindergarten through 6th grade, with almost 800 students.
We are a high poverty district, with over 75% of our students on free or reduced lunch. They are wonderful musicians, and eager to learn more about culture and history, as well as the theory and music basics.
My Project
With a new and durable speaker system, the students will be able to hear the music they wish to sing and play with. Right now, we are working off of my personal computer speakers, which are limited in sound and range. With this new system, students will be able to hear the beat and the melody to play and sing along.
My school has very limited funding resources for music and the arts, in general.
I want my students to fully experience different music from different lands--listen, play, sing and critique. With these speakers, I am hoping I can add even more musical enjoyment to our classroom.
