My Students
How many of us have experienced the frustration of a CD player not working properly? Or tried watching a movie on a computer, and the speakers were not loud enough to enjoy it? Every day my students experience this when trying to listen to music or watch video clips in music class.
My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but they all share a love of music.
Kindergarten through eighth grade, they enjoy singing, playing instruments, dancing, and listening to music. Our school is a "Title 1" school, as we have a majority of students who receive free/reduced lunches. Our school is also an award-winning magnet school, recently recognized as a Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America. As students at an International Baccalaureate school, our students are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, and become internationally-minded. In music class, my students enjoy learning about music from different cultures, and regularly demonstrate their open-mindedness by listening to and learning to appreciate a wide variety of musical styles. They are enthusiastic learners, and they deserve to have a better music listening experience with quality sound equipment when they come to music class!
My Project
The Sharp - 240W 5-Disc Compact Stereo/2-Way Speaker System will meet all of my students' music class listening needs with high fidelity! They'll be able to listen to classical music for analysis, folk music for dancing, and their own recordings (that they make in music class) for evaluation. The extra 25 feet of speaker wire will make it so that all of the 38 students in my 7/8th grade World Music class will be able to hear the music equally loud. The ability to connect a computer to this system will mean that when we watch music documentaries we'll have both adequate volume and good sound quality. It also will enable me to start using an mp3 player to play music for classes, eliminating the downtime of switching out Cd's and finding the right track to play for the class. By saving time, my classes will have more time to engage in different music learning activities.

No longer will they have to wait and see if the CD player is going to work today. No longer will they have to strain to hear the music being played from my computer on its tinny computer speakers. Valuable instructional that was lost due to "technical difficulties" will be regained, allowing us to maximize the learning that takes place in each music class.
