Tuning into Reading and Writing

My students need a few things to make our classroom a cozy reading and writing environment. We need headphones, a pencil sharpener and two beanbags.

My Students

When I tell my students what our agenda is for the day and I tell them we are doing centers, they squeal with joy! They ask how many centers we are doing that day and groan when centers are over! We love building our reading and writing brains during center time!

My 22 students and I have been together as a class for two years now.

We have built a strong sense of community. My children help one another foster each others learning and celebrate in every accomplishment no matter how small! These fantastic learners come from a high poverty area and many find school to be their safe place. Our school is full of staff members who work together to make sure every child can succeed.

My Project

We have asked for headphones so my students can each have their own to use when working on an Ipad or at the listening center. This will help cut down on the noise around other students who are reading to themselves, a buddy, or the teacher and those that are working on writing or word work. We desperately need a durable pencil sharpener that students can use on their own, with teacher training, that will withstand all our sharpening needs for years to come. Finally, my students love reading in cozy little areas all their own and bean bags are the perfect fit to create that space!

All of these materials will help our centers run more fluid and help my students become more responsible for their materials and more importantly, their learning.

Students will be responsible for storing, maintaining, and caring for all of the materials.
