This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school students are amazing! Even though they face many challenges due to the high poverty rates, food insecurity, and lack of English language proficiency, they still maintain the desire to learn. They are active and growing, young learners with lots of hopes and dreams. By giving them the proper support and caring learning environment, all students are learning and growing, regardless of their individual situations.

With an environment that promotes inclusion, equity, and kindness, students will feel safe and better prepared to learn.

My students love being part of our small, Title I-funded school community because it's a place where they can feel important, comfortable, and have fun!

My Project

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused severe financial hardships and food insecurity across the country and especially in our low-income community. My students felt so stressed last year due to the isolation they felt during distance learning. I want my middle school students to know that I love them and would love to provide them with a food treat. I want them to know that I notice their hard work and the dedication they put into their studies. What better way than to reward their hard work and help my students with their feelings of food insecurity than through a warm meal and cold drink from a local restaurant?

Warm restaurant meals and a cold drink will be a welcome treat for my students so they can be ready for their a new school year!

We will also reward student accomplishments, for example, good grades, collaborating with classmates, submitting assignments on time, for performing random acts of kindness, and for so many other accomplishments. With everything that is going on in the world with COVID-19, students need to feel some sense of normalcy and that what they do matters. The gift cards will reassure hardworking students that their efforts are noticed, appreciated, and bring joy to kids at a stressful time of year in which they face food insecurity. Join me in this effort to get kids looking towards receiving a fun and tasty incentive!
