My students need a tumbling and fitness mat to learn basic tumbling moves and perform the state-mandated physical fitness test.

My Students
The challenge facing my students is that they are not exposed to many physical fitness activities and games. Sure, they know football and basketball, but they don't know hockey and tumbling. Most live in an environment where their loved ones are not teaching these things and don't want to.
The students at this school are very eager to learn, not just in Physical Education, but also in the classroom.
The past three years these kids have shown me how much they have grown. We have increased our cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. They have been introduced to many new games and have been little sponges learning all the new rules and techniques. I love seeing their faces when we start something new, such as volleyball or soccer. They start off not sure and, by the end, they are so excited and eager to learn something else new. This has translated back into the classroom with their teachers. They are more willing to try new things.
My Project
One reason for the tumbling mat is to develop and introduce gymnastics skills. Gymnastics enhances many aspects of physical education learning. It can develop fitness, foster cooperation, introduce a variety of skills, and allow children to express creativity. The lessons will focus on tumbling and low level partner stunts. The second reason will be for the 5th graders to practice and perform the state-mandated physical fitness test. They will do curl-ups, sit-ups, and trunk lifts.
My project is very important to the students this year and the ones in the future.
My goal each year is to introduce them to something new. The tumbling mats will be a very versatile item that can be used for several activities. This gift will be greatly appreciated and used to the fullest.
