My Students
I am a physical education teacher at a college prep middle school, whose mission is to prepare students with the academic skills and character traits necessary to thrive in college and in life. My class allows scholars the opportunity to engage in physical activities so that they can return to the academic setting refreshed and ready to focus. During class, my students are able to acquire new skills, try new sports, and discover that physical activity is fun. I have the privilege of educating over 400, 5th-8th grade scholars who come from educationally under-served communities in and around St. Louis, Missouri. My students love to be active and deserve access to a high-quality physical education experience.
My Project
Our PE class is always looking for new and exciting ways to explore physical fitness and health related concepts. Many of our students are very good at cartwheels, flips and other tumbling activities, but do not have a safe place to practice them on. Other students are wanting to learn how to do those tumbling activities but are afraid to try because we do not have the proper safety equipment.
The gymnastics mats will help ensure the safety our our students while exploring new and fun ways to be physically active each day!
