My Students

I do not have one child...I have 32 students who deserve so much more than the hand they were dealt! Born into a cycle of poverty & despair, education is their only way out! Please help me help them!

For the past four years, I have been teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at a low-income, inner city school in New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA) that is still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Katrina and now the Gulf Oil Spill Disaster.

Needless to say, I have truly bonded with all of my students. In spite of my students' socioeconomic situations and their devastating losses, they are some of the most creative, inspiring, and resilient kids I have ever met! They deserve a fair and fighting chance at breaking the cycle they were born into. This "breaking of the cycle" can only come in form of an amazing education!

My Project

My students need basic supplies for our classroom, such as pencils (regular & mechanical), Kleenex, dry-erase markers, incentives & pencil awards, hand-sanitizer, and graph paper just to name a few. In addition to these supplies, I use music as a classroom management procedure. I have learned that music can be used to regulate noise levels as well as motivate and encourage learning. Music is also my classroom timer and incorporates technology into my class. Most importantly, the students LOVE IT and RESPOND to music! In order to continue this passion and improve academics and positive social skills, our classroom desperately needs these materials and supplies. My students need pencils (lead & sharpened), tissue, hand sanitizer, graphing paper, dry erase markers, incentive awards, and a classroom ipod.

My students have began taking pride in our classroom and in their education.

Your help, however big or small, will help my students grow and bloom during this critical school year, and provide them with a strong foundation to succeed in high school and college. Anything you give will inspire these students to continue on and achieve their dreams, hopefully, one day, "paying it forward" themselves. Thank you in advance!
