Triple Growth! New School, Organic Garden, & Boundless Learning

Help me give my students supplies for a school garden, including gloves, hand tools and watering cans. We also need a deck box to store our materials and a compost bin to recycle food waste.

My Students

My students are amazing! Our school is a brand new middle school within a large school district in North Carolina. We are excited to be the inaugural class at a great school, and these kids want to make their mark!

One of the most important things about my students is their desire to be involved and make a positive impact on their school community.

They recognize the growth that will happen in our school, and they want to shape that growth with a focus on learning, friendship, and service.

My Project

My students and I know a good opportunity when we see one! Our new school's campus includes garden boxes already constructed in our beautiful courtyard. They are just waiting to be filled by a motivated group of students with vision and a plan! Fortunately, my kids are ready for this challenge!

The content of Family and Consumer Science is intricately linked to learning opportunities that span the academic spectrum.

By selecting plants and creating the perfect garden environment, we will learn about our state's climate, the nutritional needs of plants, the processes and benefits of turning food waste into compost, and the environmental merits of locally grown produce.

Our garden will also give us the opportunity to participate in STEM learning, including research-driven citizen science projects like Budburst and the Great Pumpkin Project, and to become an important link on the Butterfly Highway, an initiative of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation.
