This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are young enthusiastic learners! They enjoy designing and building structures with blocks. They especially enjoy racing vehicles down the ramps that they have created.
During choice time you'll always find a group of students in the block center building roads and constructing ramps.
Some of my students are preverbal and some are learning English as a second language. They use gestures, words and word approximations to communicate their wants and needs. Some of my students readily share their primary language, Spanish, with their English speaking peers and enthusiastically participate in learning opportunities that enhance their English skills.
My Project
Patience and standing in a line are skills that my students are developing. However, waiting is not fun and should not be the focus of outdoor learning time!
Having an additional trike will give my students more time to practice their coordination and gross motor skills.
Eye-hand and arm-leg coordination, balance, and confidence are important life skills. Avoiding obstacles and navigating the trike will help my students develop these skills.
The added trike will give them time to ride with their friends. The road signs will help them to become more familiar with environmental print.
