My students need a large selection of 36 trickster tales from various cultures and some DVDs for the recording of their performances of their own stories.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a new school with a tiny library but our students have voracious appetites for good book collections! We would like to begin a study of trickster tales and need the books to make that possible.
Our small 240 student independent charter school opened in southern California during the 2009-2010 school year.
We aim to teach the whole child, providing each of our students with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and attitudes which empower students to become influential contributors in an ever-changing global society.
We draw students from over 25 different schools within the county, and approximately 50% of our students are English language learners. 50% have qualified for free and reduced lunch, and 14% are receiving special education services.
My Project
My students are terrific storytellers! Last year, they read Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad books, chose a favorite story and worked with a local storyteller to learn to tell a story in their own way. They created artwork to go along with it and we put it all together in a DVD of their individual videos.
We are requesting a number of trickster tale books as well as some recordable DVDs.
These donations will make a difference to my students in many ways.
The books will provide them with quality literature to read during our study and beyond. The books will allow the children the opportunity to explore tales that are important to other cultures. Finally, the books will provide the content of our project which will allow them to share the stories with the other students in our school (as well as others via our school website) through the use of technology.
