My Project

Reading about trees in PreK is important because it introduces young children to the fundamental concept of nature, teaches them about the vital role trees play in our environment by providing oxygen, shelter for animals, and helps foster a sense of responsibility towards the natural world, laying the groundwork for environmental awareness and conservation practices later in life. These books have been selected to align with my curriculum during the tree unit. Key reasons to read about trees in PreK: Basic environmental understanding: Children learn that trees produce the air we breathe (oxygen) through photosynthesis, which is a simple concept they can grasp at a young age. Observation and exploration: Reading about trees encourages children to actively observe trees in their surroundings, noticing different types of leaves, bark textures, and seasonal changes. Life cycle awareness: Stories about trees can introduce the concept of a life cycle, from a seed to a sapling to a mature tree. Animal habitats: By reading about trees, children learn that trees provide homes for various animals, fostering an understanding of the interconnectedness of nature. Developing a connection to nature: Early exposure to the beauty and importance of trees can nurture a love for nature and a desire to protect it. Language and vocabulary development: Tree-themed books provide opportunities to learn new vocabulary related to nature, like "leaves," "trunk," "branches," and "seed". Sensory experiences: Reading about trees can be combined with hands-on activities like collecting leaves, planting seeds, or exploring a nearby park, enhancing learning through sensory experiences.
