My Students
I encounter many students on a day-to-day basis, teaching about asthma, diabetes, and many other common health care concerns such as injuries/fractures and nosebleeds. These students are from a small town community and are so willing to help each other and go out of their way to care for each other. They are smart, caring, and capable individuals who deserve the world. However, some of them are lacking the means to do so. The staff at our school are here to provide every means available to us to help them succeed in their every endeavor! We love these students and this school is more like a family!
My Project
While I am the School Nurse, not a teacher, I was also an Emergency Room Nurse and find that the items I have requested can be critical in case of an emergency as well as everyday nursing in the high school setting. I encounter frequent nosebleeds, fractures, sickness and other injuries everyday. I also have been given the opportunity to help with teaching on the topic of health (very broad) and exercise teaching whenever possible in my health room on every day sickness (treatment and prevention). I encounter many students on a day to day basis, teaching about asthma, diabetes and many other common health care concerns.
I treat injuries of both the body and the mind; this year has been crucial in treating sports injuries, every day injuries and those dealing with depression and mental health crises.
The eye wash will allow me to address moments of blurred vision and foreign objects in eyes that could be easily flushed out, getting students back to class sooner. The storage bags will help to treat injuries from sports or day to day activities, getting ice to the injury. The kinesiology tape will allow me to treat my athletes with both chronic and acute injuries. The stress balls will give me the opportunity to give an outlet for many of my students who come in with emotional or mental health issues. I have had students come in for evaluation/ice packs after having just punched a wall out of anger/frustration. The stress balls will give them a different outlet that at least they will have the opportunity to use. The flashlights will help in neurological and eye exams, in the office and on the go.
These supplies will help me in treating those students, whatever their needs may be at that exact time.
