This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are a wonderfully diverse groups of young adults who opted to attend a trade school versus a traditional public school. Many are below or severely below grade level, some are truant, and others struggle with managing behaviors and expectations. Encouraging students to succeed academically is double the work especially when many are set to enter trades post graduation- these rewards for success in an academic content area (English/Language Arts) are so critical.

We are in need of classroom treasure chests.

I believe a reward is a powerful way to show the student that you have seen them do the right thing around the classroom. The items on the project will be used to give to students for many reasons; good behavior, collaboration, helping others, being a good citizen, etc... It will also be used to reward our Kahoot and Blooket winners. My students love a friendly competition and we are in need for high school friendly treasures. Charms, sensory toys, stickers, animal stretches, and desk pets are all the rage for 9th graders. At the end of the day, they are big kids with big hearts. Don’t let their height fool you, they still love receiving stickers and goodies in recognition of their work ethic and behavior.
