My Project

As a first grade teacher, I believe in the power of positive reinforcement to help shape young learners’ behavior and build a classroom culture grounded in kindness, effort, and responsibility. One of the key ways I accomplish this is through our classroom incentive program called Garfield Gold. Students earn Garfield Gold coins for positive behaviors—like helping a classmate, showing perseverance, or making safe, respectful choices. Each coin is a punch on their personal behavior card, and once it's filled, students get to choose a reward from our classroom treasure box—a moment they look forward to with great excitement.

To keep this system effective and engaging, I’m asking for support in restocking our treasure box with fun, motivating items like stress balls, crayons, coloring books, mini race cars, stuffed animals, bracelets, and sunglasses These small treasures are meaningful to my students and provide them with a tangible celebration of their hard work and good choices.

Whether it's the calm comfort of a stress ball, the creative joy of new crayons, or the pride of picking out a colorful bracelet, each reward becomes a reminder that positive behavior is recognized and valued.

These items are not just prizes—they are tools for reinforcing growth, encouraging effort, and helping students feel seen. With your support, I can continue to build a joyful, encouraging classroom where students are motivated to do their best, not out of fear of consequences, but out of a desire to grow and be recognized.
