Imagine opening a high school textbook and being able to share your experiences of standing in the middle of Pompeii and seeing smoke rising from mount Vesuvius, walking through the Roman Coliseum and other Roman ruins in Italy, watching the changing of the guard in London, Seeing the world from the top of Mt. Pilatus, Switzerland, or walking through the ruins throughout Greece with your classmates. For 35 students from rural Kansas, May 31, 2017 may be the only opportunity to make this experience possible.
My Project
I will use the money to help students pay for the 20 day Europe trip summer of 2017 with H. High school in Kansas. We will be traveling via the EFTours educational travel company. The price includes airfare, hotels, tours and all transportation from place to place everywhere we visit.
We are a rural community in the middle of Kansas.
Most of our economy is based on farming and oil. At this time many of the oil field workers have been laid off or are working very few hours. This is due to the price of oil being so low that the companies cannot afford to pump oil and pay their employees. The farming business is also at a low because of prices and crop damage due to weather. With this said many of the high school students cannot afford to go on this trip. This may be the only chance these students would be able to travel internationally and with some this may be the only trip outside of Kansas and the 4 surrounding states.
We have been doing fundraisers but with as small a community as we are we can only tap into those wallets for so much. Please help me give some of these students enough funding to allow these kids to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
