Traveling the World Without Leaving the Classroom!
My students need the Google Cardboard headsets so they can take virtual reality field trips all over the world without leaving the classroom. The wireless router and tablet are needed to facilitate the students' experience.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Shauberger's classroom raised $390
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in an urban public school in a major metropolitan city in Texas. A vast number of my students are newcomers to the United States and come to our campus from all over of the world. I teach World Geography Studies and Human Geography.
My classroom is full of different perspectives and life experiences with 56 different languages spoken.
Our school was featured on the television show, "Parts Unknown," hosted by Anthony Bourdain on CNN, and in an article published in the LA Times. My students are smart, full of discovery and deserve the very best I can offer.
My Project
I am asking for these items so I can bring the very best technology to my classroom. I want my students to be engaged in the lessons and take ownership of their learning.
The Cardboards and the other items are needed to create, monitor and connect with the online Google Expedition software.
The Google Cardboards are virtual reality viewers allowing students to be transformed to another place in the world with leaving the classroom. Next on my wish list is an internet router. The router will be used to connect the student's cell phones to the tablet that I will facilitate the virtual reality field trip. Lastly, is the ZenPad which is needed to create the activities and facilitate the VR field trips. Most if not all the VR software is accessed through apps and not a computer. The tablet is essential to access the materials needed to make the students experiment the best it can be.
These items will allow the student to go and see places all over the world and even take them back to where their journey started as new comers to the United States. We can take field trips to a Mosque while discussing religions of the world. I can show them the running of the bulls when we are talking about regional cultural events. It will bring a level of engagement my students have yet to see.
