This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My awesome, college-bound AP English Literature students need books! Because our school used to be a middle school which became a span school, grades 6-12, there is a need for challenging, relevant novels for our high school students.

My students are smart, hardworking, motivated and deserving.

Many of my students have parents who did not complete high school or middle school. Our students face many challenges, including gangs, violence and poverty. I am amazed by my students' perseverance and resilience. I want to prepare them for college, and see them be successful. That is why I am requesting these books for my classroom.

My Project

I think this book will a big hit with my students. My students will read The Road in AP English Literature class. If they are able to pass the AP English Literature test, then they will earn college credit while still enrolled in high school, which will not only save them money, but will show them that hard work will pay off in the long run. Teaching this book in class will also lead to discussion of themes, such as doing the right, or moral, thing in the face of a dilemma. I believe in incorporating discussions of ethics into the classroom, and this novel will certainly help facilitate that.

I think it is important for my students to read a variety of books in AP English.

This novel will add diversity to the book list, challenge my students, and enable many discussions, as well as provoke critical thinking. Donations to this project will make a difference in the education of my deserving students. Thank you in advance for your support!
