My Students
Our high school students are members of the orchestra and band programs, located in southwest Louisville. VHS is a Title I school, and the majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Additionally, most of our students do not own their own instruments, so our district provides instruments for their use.
Despite having limited resources, our students demonstrate resilience and creative problem-solving skills to achieve academic and musical excellence.
This is evidenced by our ensembles receiving numerous honors and accolades, including Distinguished ratings at KMEA assessment events and membership in local and state honors ensembles, including the KMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra.
My Project
Our student orchestra and band will each have the opportunity to perform a prepared repertoire of music for a panel of distinguished music adjudicators. Students will be competitively assessed against other student ensembles, as well as given comments and a rating. This type of high-stakes performance opportunity offers our a students a unique experience to improve and refine their craft.
In addition to being an invaluable musical experience, this trip will also create a memorable bonding experience for the students that will help them perform and work together on a deeper level musically, which will only be possible with funding for transportation.
This trip will make a difference in students' learning by enhancing classroom culture and providing them with invaluable musical feedback with the purpose of musical growth. The majority of our students have never experienced an amusement park as large and exciting as Cedar Point, otherwise known as "The Roller Coaster Capital of the World."
