My Students
My students are eager to learn and experience the world through geography. We are a hands-on group that likes to be active and creative in our learning. We have been able to get supplies to help with this.
Now we are looking for a class set of student atlases for use in class.
Many of my students come from low-income households and struggle to buy the supplies that are needed for class. I want my students to be excited to come into class and not have to worry about whether they have the supplies needed for the day, but at times I am not able to provide these supplies either. I want my classroom to be the positive and open place they can come and explore the world. Being able to have access to student atlases will help each student with practicing map reading as well as becoming familiar with where some of these places we are studying are compared to where their home is.
My Project
An easy to read set of maps is essential in a geography classroom. My students will have open access to maps on the walls but could greatly benefit from the use of individual atlases.
With these atlases they would be able to take in the greater details found on a map.
These atlases would also be a wonderful resource for reading different types of maps other than the usual political maps, such as physical maps and themetic maps like elevation or population maps. Reading a map is a big part of a geography class as well as an important tool in life.
