This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As an educator who works with students in grades PreK-8th grade in an inner city, Title 1 school, I have witnessed the impact that the pandemic and virtual learning has had on our educational community. Not only are students exhibiting anxiety and educational deficits, but the teachers and parents are feeling deflated. The pandemic brought us a slower pace and increased time for self-awareness and mindfulness. Re-entering the school building and the fast-paced environment of learning and testing has left little time for examining our own social-emotional needs. Parents, teachers, administrators and students are all involved in helping to regain that lost time for direct one-on-one learning. With the Breathe For Change 200-hour Wellness, SEL, and Yoga Teacher Training certification, I will be able to educate my local educational community on the importance of self-care and mindfulness within the school setting and at home. I plan to incorporate this certification into my everyday teaching practices, but also lead local workshops in the community to help others gain a sense of well-being.
