My Project
I took it upon myself to build my students a 4’x8’x84” vocal/recording booth. We are using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 audio interface and a Rodes NT1-A condenser microphone. BandLab is the DAW system we punch into and create our music. We listen to our tracks on low end headphones and try to make adjustments to improve our songs. This recording studio has drawn in many students whose normal habits consist of not showing up for school. Thus, one reason why they were sent to my building.
All was going well until we tried to play some of our “finished” mixes on the home compact stereo system I found for free at the recycling center.
Of the three stages in music production, my students are fully in the Recording stage and just about to begin Mixing. Mastering is the final stage and it’s here where we need to add professional quality Studio Monitors to complete our songs. Unlike the compact stereo system, the JBL 306p MKII monitor’s advance Waveguide technology creates an incredibly dynamic soundstage. This is important because during the Mixing and Mastering Stages my students will be experimenting with EQ’s or adding compression and other small musical details. With their young ears, they will really be able to hear every element of that sound. For me, this wide soundstage will present better listening examples and lead to more learning opportunities and fresh ideas.
The JBL 306p MKII features a 3-position HF trim switch used the adjust high-frequency output to match room acoustics and personal preferences. Perfect for creating our new secluded music studio room this coming school year. I'd like to share more regarding my students, their teachers, administration and how everything positively changed, but I’m running out of space. Please understand, my entire school will benefit positively.
