I have complained numerous times for computer upgrades and technology integration in my classroom. This is still an area for concern for me. Currently there are two Pentium 1 computers in my classroom that have the expediency of a snail in regards to word processing and executing Internet searches.
I teach seventh and eighth grade writing which requires me to model effective writing strategies to students in a classroom with limited space. Teaching from my laptop to an LCD projector will aid me in effective writing instruction to my students. My students need an LCD projector to make learning engaging and fun.
The laptop, speakers and printer (and ink) used in my classroom currently were purchased out of my personal funds. It is my overall vision to prepare all students for the diverse world community through a constantly evolving, multicultural, technology-based core curriculum that stresses academic achievement, performance in the arts, and training in vocational and technical occupations.
Over the last twenty years, we have seen remarkable transformations due to technology in our lives. Technology has transformed the way in which we live and operate – in government, commerce, education, manufacturing, health industries, entertainment, science and engineering.
Students must be aware and understand the impact of computers and applications software as tools in their educational endeavors as well as the effect of technology on careers and their personal life styles. Students need to have hands-on experience in computer literacy, keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, database development/ presentation software, and use of the Internet.
Data has proven, especially with the challenges of today, we are teaching a multi-media student. Multi-media students meaning students whose learning is stimulated from visual and audio type devices such as television, radio, cell phone, colors, sounds, etc. In the near future every child will have a laptop or some portable device that will be a giver and a receiver of information. These aforementioned devices will replace books, pens, and create classrooms into a paperless society. Please help me get an LCD projector for my classroom. Together WE make a difference!
