it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school district in the Bronx, my students are faced with numerous challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, I strive to keep things as simple and easily accessible as possible.
Our students are taught by a team of powerful multicultural educators.
As students walk into my classroom, my goal is to make them want to be there, since the desire to be somewhere has a huge impact on what they will get out of wherever they are. Many of my students have a lot going on in their personal lives, and seeing that so many still show up every day makes me strive to be able to give them a classroom that they deserve and an education that can be beneficial to their continued success.
My Project
Each year, high school students in New York State have to sit for and pass regents examinations in their content area courses. Being at a bilingual school, with the high number of English Language Learners (ELL) that we have, the Common Core English Language Arts regents proves to be one of the most, if not the most difficult exam for them to be successful on. Thankfully ELLs are allowed to use direct translators to assist them in understanding the the material that is in front of them. These updated translators will allow students will the most accurate translations of vocabulary so that they can have better access to the exam texts and questions, as well as broadening their vocabulary when composing the series of essays that is required of them.
