My students need multiple ways to engage with the content using globes, maps, dry erase markers and other materials to help us conceive of the world in a cohesive way.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are mostly new to this country having arrived from Yemen, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Some of them have had interrupted schooling and are escaping war torn areas. A lot of them spend their time outside of school working, and need every moment in the classroom to keep them engaged and involved. They are at various stages of mastering English. They are eager to learn and grow, but need all the help they can get to succeed.
My Project
This project will allow students to truly engage with their learning. In our highly interactive classroom, everyone will find a way to express themselves and connect with the content we are working on. We look forward to reading an accessible version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, using the maps and globes to gain understanding of and share thoughts on world movements and trends, using the dry erase markers on our boards to ensure that everyone gets a chance to participate to whatever degree they are able, and listening with the high quality speakers to the videos and speeches that will make our work come to life.
