Help me give my students options for flexible seating when they return to the classroom as well as educational books and materials to help them learn about different cultures.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade students are one of a kind. Each one enters my room coming from many different backgrounds and ethnicities which adds to my melting pot of a classroom. These are the kids that if you look them in their eyes, you have no idea what they just came from or had to experience before they reached my classroom door. Yet, despite the challenges they are up against, they show up every day, with a smile across their face and eager, ready and willing to learn! They ask questions, they challenge theories, and they want answers! They are creative thinkers who, when given the opportunity, will take the ball and run with it. My second graders are the CEOs, entrepreneurs, inventors, and scientists of the future!
My Project
As my students get ready to enter back into the school building, they will have to get used to their new normal. They will benefit greatly from flexible seating, because they will need to be comfortable being back in the classrooms for the entire day. Many students were comfortable at home learning where they felt ok, laying down, on the floor etc. By giving them the options to sit on, they will feel comfortable transitioning back. These read aloud books and cultural resources can aid in many ways too. The hard covered books will be used by the students, in their hands. They have lost that feeling of holding an actual book, while learning during the pandemic. When using the art resources requested, the students will feel as if they are accepted when creating their art pieces. This will give them an opportunity to see themselves for who they are.
