Transition to Kindergarten

Help me give my students backpack kits filled with math and reading activities for family engagement and independent learning as they transition to kindergarten in the fall.

My Students

Most of our students have never been in a school setting before. Social and emotional skills are a challenge for many of them. They are very eager to learn and become excited when they learn new skills. They are becoming very excited about to coming to school and they have picked up so much already within three weeks of school starting.

Over the past few weeks we have learned that our students need more hands on experiences and materials in the classroom.

My Project

The backpacks will set my students up for kindergarten success! It will promote early literacy development with fun, hands-on activities and a book that highlights emerging reading skills.

During the summer, students loose most of what they have learned in the school year.

I want them to stay engaged and still have fun over the summer while using these backpacks.

These kits also includes bilingual strategies for my Spanish speaking families to enhance learning. Families will be able to use these activities in the summer to review skills before their child enters kindergarten.
