This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love my students because they are resilient. They are coming from very hard social, family and economic pressures that take a toll on their health. As their health teacher, I practice teaching Meditation and Yoga 10 minutes a day for my three classes. This has shown to really help with the Anxiety and stress they are feeling not just from school but the pressures out side. Many of the students are living in foster care, in very crowded living situations and all are coming from very low -income households. Their parents are under a high level of stress dealing figuring ways to “pay the bills” and not get evicted. This comes into play in the classroom. I try and give practical skills now to cope and be even more resilient than they have been asked to. This chair would allow a special place for students who need extra rest, breathing and relaxing before transition into work. Many students come into my class because it is a sacred and safe place to be. I don't allow phones in my spaces. This would be a no phone chair.
