Transforming Our School Culture: Constructing the PBIS Rewards Store

Help me give my students a pop up canopy, storage organizer baskets, classroom prizes, shelving storage units, goodie bag stuffers, and fidget toy packs to open up the schoolwide positive behavior intervention reinforcement store.

My Project

What I love about my students is their natural grit to keep trying despite what they may be facing in their personal lives. What makes them special is that they all have such memorable personalities. The kind of personalities that bring a smile to one's face when they are thought about.

These reward materials will make a difference in my students learning because it will give them the extrinsic motivation that they need; to strive towards achieving more positive behavioral outcomes in the classroom and greater school community.

The lessons that will be taught are proactive in nature and are based upon the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework for creating safe, positive, equitable schools, where every student can feel valued, connected to the school community and supported by caring adults. Scholars will take on the learning task of building a PBIS store using intentionality and strategic planning. The task of opening the school PBIS store will take collaboration and precise organizational skills to ensure the store is running at its optimal potential.

Scholars will consider every variable while deciding who will be in charge of the school stores’ daily operations. Who will restock? Who will serve as a cashier? Who maintains records? Scholars serving as “operations managers” will additionally give them the autonomy to showcase their learning growth and leadership developmental skills. But more importantly, academic stakeholders will also have a front-row seat in watching the transformation of my students and the incredible "Positive Power" they will collectively use to transform our school culture.
