it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are an amazing, resilient group of 10th graders who have grown up together, creating a strong sense of community. Advisory is their safe space—a place to process challenges, support one another, and build lifelong relationships. However, as they navigate academic pressures and personal struggles, they need a calming environment where they can self-regulate and reset.
This project will transform our advisory into a tranquil retreat with sensory-friendly materials that promote relaxation and focus.
We already have one Bearaby weighted pillow, and students find it so comforting that they requested another. These pillows help ease stress, improve focus, and provide a sense of security. By adding a large and medium-sized Bearaby pillow, more students will have access to this soothing tool when they need it.
Additionally, Koosh balls will serve as stress-relief tools, helping students manage anxiety and improve focus during advisory check-ins. Small, simple, but highly effective, these fidgets allow students to channel nervous energy in a productive way.
Our goal is to create a calming space where students feel supported, regulated, and ready to engage. These resources will reinforce the importance of emotional well-being alongside academic success, ensuring that every student has the tools to thrive.
