Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have been without a steady music teacher for the entire school year. They are eager and ready to learn, and I am excited to help them grow their love for music and reach their hidden musical potentials. My school is a Title I school and the reality is that my students face incredible hardships outside of school. I want to make the music room a place where they feel safe, inspired, and a class they look forward to every week. This will be a place where their culture, personality and diversity comes alive, and they can forget about their troubles.

I plan to use the instruments to replace damaged ones in the room and provide more diverse instrument playing with the djembes, maracas and guiros.

The dry erase markers and erasers are a way to connect to students who are kinesthetic learners and provide a resource to aid in learning with student whiteboards. I love having my students draw the instruments as we learn about the instrument families and feel it helps with retaining information.
