Transforming Counseling Space: Enhancing Student Comfort and Supports

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A thoughtfully decorated counseling office equipped with bright, cheerful, comforting, and soothing words and decorations creates a nurturing environment where students feel safe and valued. Posters with inspirational phrases, breathing exercises, and coping strategies will help students feel safe and comfortable during their sessions and help them easily engage with and remember the strategies we work on together.
Inspirational posters and engaging social/emotional visual aids foster a positive atmosphere, encouraging open communication and personal growth.
These decorations will help students feel welcome and supported the moment they step into the counseling office. Additionally, the ability to be organized and provide accessible supplies will ensure that the office is a functional and clean space where students can comfortably express themselves and work through their challenges.
The notebooks will allow students to use journaling as a coping strategy without leaving the classroom! Students can carry their journals with them throughout the day and have an outlet for their thoughts and feelings. They can then bring their journals with them to their sessions and use it as a jumping off point for our discussions.
The rolling cart will allow students to have creative supplies clearly accessible and move them around the room to maximize the use of our space! Students love using drawing and writing as coping strategies, so having easy access to the supplies in the cart will be helpful for them.
By investing in these decorations and supplies, we are not just enhancing the physical space; we are supporting students' emotional well-being and helping them to thrive academically and personally.
