This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Implementing technology in the classroom has been difficult with an overhead projector that malfunctions. The overhead projector significantly limits the way my students can view material. With a document camera, I could display their work, video, websites, and so much more.
My students are all bilingual and have a wide range of abilities and interests.
Unfortunately, many of them are struggling with their academics. Our school is located in the middle of a large urban area and many of my students have not had opportunities to explore the world around them. I am looking for different and more innovative ways to teach and inspire them. As ESL learners, it's difficult to for them to sit, listen, and do traditional school activities while their brains are working overload to try to comprehend the English.
My Project
With the help of a document camera, I could use more imagery in my classroom as well as videos for instruction. I would love to "zoom in" on important features while teaching writing and have students show off there own work. We are currently working on geometry and it would be great to show all of the geometric features of an object using a document camera.
Because of the limited experiences of my students, I would love to bring the world to them by showing them videos of different people and places around the world.
Although we might not be able to take a field trip to Washington DC, or an African jungle, I would like them to have the experience in the classroom! My students deserve the best resources around. Help me bring it to them!
