My Project
As a dedicated special education teaching assistant working with 3rd–5th grade students, my goal is to create a classroom environment that is not only inclusive and supportive, but also one that students genuinely look forward to being part of each day.
My students quickly establish strong connections, exhibit a vibrant energy, and consistently push themselves to excel.
Although, many of our students recognize that they learn differently, and some have expressed feelings of frustration or discouragement because of it. We want to respond with compassion and action—by building a space where they feel respected, motivated, and empowered to succeed both academically and emotionally.
Additionally, we use a positive reinforcement system that includes rewards like stickers, a treasure box, and lunch bunch snacks to help encourage good behavior and academic effort.
To achieve this, we are working to develop a calming and engaging area within our classroom. This space will help students regulate emotions in a safe, structured way. We hope to include:
-A soft rug and cozy pillows for comfort
-Fidget tools and sensory-friendly items to support focus and relieve anxiety
-Noise-reduction headphones for students sensitive to sound
-Uplifting, educational light-up signage to create a visually engaging atmosphere
-Nature-themed elements to add a calming, peaceful feel
Nearly all students from low‑income households
