Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been teased or called names? Have you ever had someone make fun of you for no reason? Have you ever felt helpless? I have been teased and bullied as a young student and I feel that it is important for my 2nd graders to learn how to deal with these situations in positive ways!

I teach in a low-income, high poverty, elementary school in central California.

Our school is a Title I school which means 100% of our students are part of the free breakfast and lunch program. Many of our students live in high crime neighborhoods and unfortunately seem to be becoming immune to the violence around them.

My Project

Having a laptop in the classroom will enable my students to view real-life bullying situations and learn how to find positive resolutions. My students will learn about compassion, good character, trust and self-esteem. We will do research to raise awareness on this vital topic. Through the use of this interactive medium, they will learn how to communicate and acquire the proper tools so that they will save themselves a lot of heartache if/and when a bullying situation should arise. Just as the words on my posters in my classroom are positive, the websites, software, and anti-bullying research we will conduct will be geared to promote a self-esteem and self-value environment 110%! I'd really like to guide them towards the road to success both in character and academics. This interactive device will give my students the path to see ways to intervene when they or their peers are being bullied, in order to prevent the lifelong detrimental, negative, effects.

Because my students live in an ever-growing violent world, I would like to be able to show them there are ways to solve problems without bullying and violence.

By having a laptop, I will be able to have my students engage in conversations about positive solutions. To you and yours: THANK YOU!!!
