Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come from a low-income neighborhood where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Many of the students come into kindergarten unable to recognize letters or read and often do not have the resources to be able to read at home in order to better their reading abilities.
Even though my students have many factors working against them, they are enthusiastic learners that deserve to be provided with resources to help them succeed!
We are committed as a community to work together to provide the best learning environment for our students. Through high expectation and a strong family connection, we help our students achieve academic and emotional success. My students are hard workers and truly want to be in school.
My Project
Our classroom needs party decor supplies to engage student learning. This student engagement strategy is called "room transformation" where the teacher transforms their classroom using a theme. For example, a teacher could turn the classroom into an operating room and do a lesson on contractions and call it contraction surgery.
Room transformations not only encourage student engagement but it also increases student attendance.
Last year when I would do I transformation, I would hint students to come to school that day. No student wanted to be left out of the surprise so all of my students would attend school. School should be fun and learning should be engaging!
