My Students
Do you remember what it was like to fall in love with a book? Many of my students have not yet discovered that joy because the books they want to read are too difficult for them. They need books specifically targeted towards their reading level that also grab their attention.
My students are absolutely wonderful people!
They are struggling readers who are working so hard to get up to grade level in reading. My students are part of a diverse, successful charter school. Most of them come from low income families, so they don't have access to books outside of the classroom. They love to check out books from our classroom library to read at home. We don't have a school library, so all of the books they read come from our classroom library.
My Project
I am requesting high/low books like the Bluford High series and other books that are geared towards my students' interests, but written at their reading level. Many of my students don't want to be caught reading "kids" books, so they need books that look like books for teens and pre-teens but are written at a lower reading level.
My students need to make up for years of non-reading and the best way to do this is for them to read as much as possible. They are expected to read a lot in class and at home because they are working on becoming independent readers. These books will help them realize that they can be successful at reading.
Your contribution will help put books in the hands of students who need books written at their level.
My students have improved their reading scores so much this year, but they still have work to do. You will be supporting this growth and encouraging students to continue reading. Thank you for your consideration.
