My Students
My students in grade eleven are hard-working, multi-tasking-style learners. They balance academics, athletics, and social commitments with after school and weekend jobs. They range from high to low socioeconomic levels as well as a broad range of learning levels. Their ethnic backgrounds are diverse; foreign exchange students share the halls of our school.
My students are winners in the classroom, standouts on the field and court, and compassionate future leaders of our community.
They work together with faculty members to achieve greatness each and every day.
My Project
My students spend part of the semester studying the transcendental movement. The focus is on nature and being a peace in a rural environment. We read Leaves of Grass by Whitman and Walden’s Life in the Woods. They make an effort to move from the Puritan focus on religion to the transcendental focus on self. While Fallingwater is only less than two hours from our school, a physical field trip would not be feasible for the time of year that it is covered in class.
My students will use this iPad to take a virtual field trip of Wright’s Fallingwater using an app and make valuable real world connections to the transcendental way of thinking.
Because we use Chromebooks in the classroom, we need a device to support the app. Since students will be passing it around, a protective cover is needed.
Upon completion of the unit, students will be encouraged to practice connecting with nature and a focus on self. This will lead into a unit on poetry where they will share their feelings.
