My Project

I am asking for kids-sized yoga mats to be donated to my classroom. I am a preschool teacher at the California School for the Deaf and I have been researching many ways to help our students learn self-care strategies in the classroom and also, at home. Most things I read about calming methods in the classroom, incorporate soothing music.

Since all of my students are deaf, I thought moving our bodies and practicing breathing would be a good alternative to calming music.

These mats would greatly benefit my classroom. All of my students have limited language, but do great with visuals. I will set up the yoga mats and attach a name card to each one. Having the yoga mat will give them the visual cue needed to let them know it is time for yoga and self-care time. Tension has been high this year with learning how to navigate being in the classroom during a pandemic. This is a wonderful way to help my students connect mind and body and to practice calming breathing techniques.
