My Project
I’m requesting two items to help our classroom, a classroom rug and headphones. Right now, if I call them down to do engaged whole group teaching and modeling, they have to sit on cold tile. I lose their focus after so long because they are uncomfortable. The rug will help give them a comfy space to keep their hands and feet to themselves and stay engaged with learning. The headphones are also needed. I teach several students with ADHD and autism. They get overstimulated very easily. As of right now, only parents who were able to afford headphones have brought them in. When it’s time to do independent work on the computer, the noise and volume increase tenfold due to most students not having headphones. This then leads to my students with high needs being uncomfortable. Headphones for everyone would completely solve these problems.
My goal for this project is to provide all around comfort and calm for my students.
Providing a way to comfortably learn would make all the difference to my seven and eight year old students.
My students are the most giving and loving children I’ve ever taught. They have hearts of gold even when each one of them is personally going through a lot. I teach at a Title 1 school with extremely high needs and a high ELL population. Even though they have the world against them, they come in every day and try to give learning their all. They deserve a space to do so comfortably.
