Tracking our Green Classroom While Learning How to Present!

My students need Chromebooks for group work, a Mac for presentations, and two garden sets to track the growth rates between crystals and vegetables.

My Students

Although our students come from low income neighborhoods, they continue to prove how high-achieving they truly are. The growth in their maturity is matched by their new sense of determination to further explore the world and make their own lasting impression. They are interested in so many different topics, and are always looking for ways to share their talents. We could need to give them more ways of showing off these talents that reflect the digital world they live in.

I want my students to think for themselves, so giving them access to technology that will allow them to do independent research projects will give them that opportunity.

I want to challenge them because I already know how brilliant they are; I want them to realize it as well!

My Project

My students are visual learning and want to bring the garden indoors, and they want to continue to learn how to create visual presentations for the rest of the school on conservation, recycling tactics, and awesome ways of using those recycled items. The focus here is to break into smaller groups, each tracking the growth rate of an item indoors. They will bring humanities to the picture by creating slam poetry about their grow station. Each team of students will have a chromebook assigned, and the Mac will use as the presentation tool. The garden grow sets include different vegetables, but we are also growing crystals, mushrooms and other naturally occurring items.

Students want to take the instruction into their own hands.

By creating their own visual presentations (via the Mac and the laptop station we are creating for videos) students can take the "stage" and create demonstrations for the school community and pass on their new "green" lessons, and fun interactive ways that students can create their own visually stunning gardens at home; sometimes just by using household items. This hands on learning with technology and our green angle will definitely excite the students!
