My Students
Defining problems, using creativity, applying research, building prototypes, and developing solutions are just some of the skills that students use when they are in my STEM classroom. Through the design process, my students are learning skills that will enable them to succeed in their future. I am currently in my 14th year of teaching middle school science, but I am always looking to implement new techniques into my curriculum to engage students for science.
Science has the ability to excite and amaze students.
When students are engaged in a hands-on activity, they are learning without even realizing it! In my inner-city classroom, students of all cultures, creeds, and backgrounds meet with a common goal.
A typical day in my classroom involves my students learning science while working together to solve problems. Many express a desire to work in a STEM career, and nothing makes me happier than continuing to expand my skills and knowledge so that I can support my students in their growth.
My Project
Tracking time, fitness, and financial literacy often goes hand in hand. I am requesting an Apple Watch to be able to create engaging lessons that will show my students the impact of fitness on financial choices in life. While attending the ISTE conference this summer, I will be able to learn new ways to use technology in ways to create more engaging lessons for my students.
Teachers deserve the opportunity to grow and become innovative in their field.
Having the opportunity to post this project will allow me the chance to add needed tools in my classroom. I’m inspired to learn more with this new device. The Apple Watch will help me as a teacher because I will use it to create healthy based lessons as a result. I will be able to use the technology to calculate heart rate versus exercise rates. I can then use that data to create real-life lesson plans.
