Help me give my students the shade for outdoor reading and running. Let's provide it, encouraging them to exercise both body and mind while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
"Track to Literacy" is a dynamic after-school program designed to serve the vibrant community of our High School, an A-rated, high-performing charter school. This initiative specifically targets African American and Hispanic students who qualify for free and reduced lunch, aiming to bridge literacy gaps and promote physical well-being.
Recognizing the crucial link between a healthy body and a sharp mind, this program seamlessly integrates literacy development with the fundamentals of track and field.
The literacy component focuses on enhancing reading fluency and comprehension. Students engage in targeted literacy activities, participate in structured reading comprehension programs, and have the opportunity to adopt books that pique their interests. This approach fosters a love of reading while strengthening essential skills. By incorporating culturally relevant reading materials and interactive activities, we aim to make learning enjoyable and effective for our diverse student population.
Simultaneously, "Track to Literacy" introduces students to the world of track and field. Certified coaches will use the agility kits, hurdles and canopies to guide participants in proper running techniques, agility drills, and the basics of various track events. This physical activity not only promotes cardiovascular health but also instills discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. The outdoor setting provides a refreshing and stimulating environment, encouraging students to embrace physical activity and appreciate the natural world within their own school grounds.
The program's dual focus creates a holistic learning experience, directly addressing the needs of our students. By combining intellectual and physical development, "Track to Literacy" empowers students to excel both academically and athletically. Our goal is to create well-rounded individuals who are confident, healthy, and passionate about learning. We believe that by nurturing both the mind and body, we can unlock the full potential of each student within our community, setting them on a path to lifelong success.
